Public intoxication in Austin

Tuesday, Oct 4, 2016 by Brian Laviage

My friends and I were bar hopping on 6th Street after attending ACL (Austin City Limits) this past weekend. They got a bit too rowdy on the street and we were all arrested for public intoxication and spent the night in jail. I was not over the legal limit, but they definitely were. Since I wasn’t drunk, I don’t believe I was treated fairly. What should I do? And what should my friends do? Should they just plead guilty and pay the fine?

Hi Steven. Do not plead guilty. If you do it may be on your record forever. You do not want a public intoxication on your record. The truth is you were not treated fairly. We need to get a new court date and get this thing dismissed so it will not go down as a conviction on your record. As for your friends I can certainly represent them as well. This is not a conflict of interest, in fact in cases like this it may help. I may even be able to work out a discount for multiple public intoxication cases. Contact me any time.
