DEATH FOLLOWING PUBLIC INTOXICATION ARREST IN HOUSTON

According to the Houston Chronicle:

A Houston man dies after arrest for public intoxication

A southeast Houston man died late Monday August 20th after he went into convulsions and stopped breathing while in police custody, authorities said.

Police arrested the 44 year old male, for public intoxication about 11:40 p.m. in the 6000 block of Vasser.

Houston police officials said Lauderdale, of the 5900 block of Westover, had a "psychotic episode" after he was taken to HPD's southeast patrol station jail, 8300 Mykawa.

Jail personnel called for an ambulance and performed CPR on the man. He was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

HPD homicide and internal affairs detectives on Tuesday were investigating his death, officials
